ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR
Dr. Mary Delia G. Tomacruz is an associate professor of Management at the Department of Hotel, Restaurant and Institution Management (DHRIM), University of the Philippines in Diliman, where she handles Financial Management, Marketing Management, and Strategic Management in Hotels, Restaurants and Related Institutions both in the undergraduate and graduate level. She was Visiting Professor in Woosong University in Daejeon, South Korea in AY 2013-2014. She has been a resource person in seminar-workshops of firms in the hospitality industry in the area of Finance and Marketing and has reviewed articles for presentation in international and national conferences. She has published articles in international journals and has completed researches funded by the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Development (OVCRD) of U.P. Diliman (OVCRD) and the Center for Integrative and Development Studies (CIDS) of U.P. System. She was founding Chair of the Philippine Research Conference on Tourism and Hospitality (PRCTH), jointly organized by DHRIM with the Asian Institute of Tourism (AIT) in 2017 and held the position until 2022, after which she became Co-Chair in 2023.
Dr. Tomacruz was an Independent Director for nine years (2014 until 2023) of a publicly listed semiconductor firm. Her engagement at the Canadian International Development Agency - Policy Training and Technical Assistance Facility (CIDA-PTTAF) on project development and management resulted in projects with various government agencies such as the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA), the Civil Service Commission (CSC), the Department of Education, Culture and Sports (DECS) now known as the Department of Education (DepEd), the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), and the National Statistical Coordinating Board (NSCB), an agency now attached with NEDA, among others. At present, she is a consultant of a research-oriented design consultancy firm and had previous engagements with an alternative urban futures consulting group. She was also a member of technical working group on the Greening of Food Services, National Ecolabelling Programme-Green Choice Philippines, representing the academe.
Dr. Tomacruz has handled several administrative posts in the University, among them as the immediate past U.P. System Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs (OVPAA) R & D Resource Management, a post she held for two terms. Her tasks included supervision of the implementation of selected OVPAA programs such as the Faculty, REPS, Administrative Staff Development Program (FRASDP), Visiting Professor Program (VPP), Research Dissemination Grant (RDG), Short-Term Training Grant (STTG), the Externship Program, and the Arts Productivity System (APS) Award. In addition, she took charge of the administrative and financial concerns of OVPAA and offices under the OVPAA. She was also Vice Chancellor for Administration of U.P. Diliman for two terms, where she managed U.P. Diliman’s financial, property and human resource concerns. She likewise held the post as Director of the U.P. Theater Complex and Director of the Business Concessions Office. In the College of Home Economics, she was formerly the Chair of the Office of Community and Extension Services (OCES) and the Student Relations Officer (SRO).
