DISCOVER THE FLAVORS OF THE PHILIPPINES: "THE ULTIMATE FILIPINO ADOBO" BOOK LAUNCHING EVENT WITH CHEF CLAUDE TAYA

We are excited to bring you an exceptional culinary event in collaboration with the UP Asian Institute of Tourism (UP AIT). Join us on 02 October 2023 at the College of Home Economics for the grand book launching of "The Ultimate Filipino Adobo" authored by the renowned Chef Claude Tayag. This whole-day event promises a delightful exploration of Filipino cuisine and culture.

The festivities kick off at 10:00 AM with the official book launch, where you'll have the opportunity to be among the first to obtain "The Ultimate Filipino Adobo" and meet Chef Claude Tayag in person for a personalized book signing. Following the launch, at 11:00 AM, Chef Claude will showcase his culinary mastery through a cooking demonstration and tasting session. It's a chance to savor the rich flavors of Filipino Adobo and witness a culinary artist at work.

The excitement continues at 11:30 AM with another book signing session, ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to have their copy of the book signed by the author. 

Later in the day, at 2:00 PM, you're invited to join us at the UP Asian Institute of Tourism Lounge for an insightful lecture on Filipino cuisine's cultural and global significance. This session promises to be a fascinating exploration of how Filipino food resonates worldwide.

For those who missed the morning session, don't worry! At 3:00 PM, UP AIT will be hosting a second book launching and book signing event in the Asian Institute of Tourism Lounge. Chef Claude Tayag is an award-winning chef and author known for his dedication to promoting Filipino cuisine. "The Ultimate Filipino Adobo" is his latest culinary masterpiece, delving deep into the world of one of the Philippines' most beloved dishes.

DHRIM Freshmen, Shiftees, and Transferees Virtual Orientation

New students were welcomed by the faculty and staff of the Department of Hotel, Restaurant and Institution Management last August 26, 2022 in the DHRIM Freshmen, Shiftees, and Transferees Orientation. Academic rules and guidelines were discussed during the program.

In celebration of the College of Home Economic's (CHE) 61st Anniversary last July 19, students members of ESD Honor Society showed their support to one of their home colleges by lending a helping hand behind the scenes during the preparation of the event. Truly, a Hala Bira moment for the organization as they helped ensure a successful anniversary!

DHRIM WORKSHOP 2022

Last July 13-15, 2022, the Department of Hotel, Restaurant and Institution Management conducted a workshop at Vivere Hotel  to discuss the iAADS (Internal Academic Assessment and Development System) and UP's Blended Learning Models for the following semester. LAUNCHING OF DHRIM INDUSTRY ADVISORY BOARD

Last June 16, 2022, the Department of Hotel, Restaurant and Institution Management launched its Industry Advisory Board, consisting of leaders in hotels, restaurants, and related institutions. The aim is to make the program current and relevant amidst the changing times.  

DHRIM FACULTY MEMBERS RECEIVED ONE UP PROFESSORIAL CHAIR AND FACULTY GRANT

Four faculty members from the UP DHRIM received the One UP Professorial Chair and Faculty Grant awards for January 2022-December 2024. The award is given to faculty members with outstanding contribution to teaching, research, and public service.

Ipsos PH, a global leader in market research, awarded the Eta Sigma Delta Honor Society a certificate for its participation in the company's tree planting project held last June 24, 2022 at the La Mesa Nature Reserve. 

Learning from the master 2020

Learning from the Masters (LFM) is a conference held by the UP DHRIM every year. Last November 9, 2020, the department organized an LFM in celebration of the 99th Anniversary of Home Economics as a Discipline. The event was moderated by Asst. Prof. Liza J. Guggenheim of the DHRIM and Assoc. Prof. Joanne R. Bantang of the HEEd. The speakers of the LFM were Ms. Pacita “Chit” Juan for “Slow Food Movement”, Mr. Dave Louie G. Ang for “Sustainable Urban Gardening”, Prof. Casiana Blanca J. Villarino for “Food Innovation for Sustainable Consumption and Production”, Teacher Czarecah T. Oropilla for “Intergenerational and Multidisciplinary Approach Towards Sustainable Futures for Children and Families” and Ms. Rodessa V. Reyes for “Mompreneurship and Homemaking during the Pandemic”.

DHRIM CONDUCTED 1ST WEBINAR DURING THE PANDEMIC

Last July 20, 2020, the UP DHRIM organized a webinar series highlighting The Role of the Academe in the New Normal. The webinar was welcomed by the Dean of CHE, Dr. Shirley V. Guevarra, and moderated by the AVP for Academic Affairs, Dr. Mary Delia G. Tomacruz. The speakers of the webinar were consultant and hotelier Mr. Valdemir Reyes, COO of 1771 Group of Restaurants Chef Vicky Pacheco, and Professor in Tourism and Hospitality Mahidol University, Thailand Dr. Roberto Gozzoli.


DHRIM WEBINAR ON HOSPITALITY RESEARCH

Last August 6, 2020, the UP DHRIM hosted a webinar series discussing the Changes in Hospitality Management and Research. The talk was welcomed by the Chancellor of UP Diliman, Dr. Fidel R. Nemenzo, and moderated by the Head of the DHRIM, Dr. Mary Anne Ramos-Tumanan. The guest speaker was the Foundation Professor of Tourism University in Waikato, New Zealand, Emeritus Editor of the Tourism Management Journal, and Editor of the Tourism Critiques: Practice and Theory, Prof. Chris Ryan.

Affirmation of dr. Shirley V. Guevarra as the new dean of CHE.

Last February 7, 2020, Dr. Shirley V. Guevarra was officially declared as the 14th Dean of the College of Home Economics at the CHE Museum. Dr. Guevarra was the chairman of the UP DHRIM during A.Y. 2007-2013.

hra alumni donated virtual tasting kits for beverage management class

Alumni of the BS HRA program donated tasting kits to the UP DHRIM for its HRIM 105 Beverage Management class. The tasting kits include 23 vials of different wines and distilled spirits from local (lambanog, tapuy, and basi) and international beverage brands like Hennessy, Belvedere, Glenmorangie, Moet & Chandon, Cloudy Bay, and Altos. Asst. Prof. Daniel Karlo G. Lucas received the tasting kits from the supplier. The laboratory sensory evaluations of these beverages were all conducted virtually via Zoom.

Last January 22, 2020, students of Chef Criselda Young from HRIM 111 (Catering Management) conducted a Soup Kitchen Outreach Program spearheaded by Art Relief Mobile Kitchen. The activity was organized as a disaster-response mass feeding program to help the displaced victims of the recent Taal volcanic eruption. The program aims to let the students experience a firsthand off-premise catering in the context of relief operation which can inculcate in them the value of social responsibility.
