Assistant Professor
Larissa Mae Maranan-Montano is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Hotel, Restaurant and Institution Management at the College of Home Economics. She earned both her bachelor's and master's degrees in Hotel, Restaurant and Institution Management from the University of the Philippines Diliman. She is currently a student of the Doctor of Philosophy in Data Science program at the same university.
She handles subjects on Marketing Management, Management Information Systems, Macro- and Micro-Perspectives in Hotels, Restaurants, and Related Institutions, and Practicum. She also teaches a service course, HE 100 Family Life and Societal Development.
Her research focus is on data science, consumer behavior, social media, and technology. Currently, she is part of the Tourism Data Science Research Laboratory, a joint project between UP Asian Institute of Tourism, UP Data Science Program, and the Philippine Department of Tourism. Her paper on data science in hospitality was recently presented at the Philippine Research Conference on Tourism and Hospitality. Her master's thesis is about wedding planning through virtual communities, using netnographic dimensions to collect data. An offshoot of the study was also presented in Asia Pacific Tourism Association conference in Busan, South Korea.
On March 2022, she earned the Certification in Hotel Industry Analytics granted by the American Hotel Lodging Association. She holds membership positions in the International Council on Hotel, Restaurant, and Institutional Education (ICHRIE) and the Council of Hotel and Restaurant Educators of the Philippines (COHREP).
Prior to joining the academe, she gained industry experience from Krispy Kreme Philippines as part of the marketing team. She also had her faculty immersion at the Diamond Hotel Philippines and the Kindness Hotel in Kaohsiung, Taiwan.
